HEM JYOTIKA

(1988, BFA Painting)

I am Hem Jyotika, a painter, printmaker, and documentary film maker, shaped by my middle-class roots and a profound appreciation for beauty in music, poetry, art, literature, and nature. A graduate of Delhi College of Art, I channel my love for the aesthetic into creations dedicated to women, children, and the inexhaustible beauty of nature. Nature, in particular, holds a prominent place in my works, influencing every stroke of my brush and printmaking endeavors. Crafting my canvases is integral, as techniques form an essential aspect of my artistic expression, often enhanced by a love for textures.
In my worldview, art is a philosophical exploration, evolving through the tapestry of life experiences. The canvas becomes a dynamic space where medium and subject converge, guiding my semi-abstract compositions that occasionally traverse into spiritual realms. Viewers describe the visual experience of my work as akin to witnessing a film—a narrative rich in philosophy, depth, emotions, mystery, and a profoundly satisfying impact on the viewer’s mind. My art serves as a testament to the belief that the artist’s journey is a continuous emergence of personal philosophy through the language of visuals.
