“Mr. Sham Sunder was born in 1943 and graduated from College of Art, New Delhi in1971. His early works involve experiments in sketching and variety of different mediums and thereafter he developed interest in water colour. Transparent wash technique became his characteristic style and he perfected it under the guidance of Sh. Biswanath Mukherjee. The central theme of all his works is Shiva- Shakti , the Yin and Yang forces – the cosmic forces of the universe. One can easily see that there is something very spiritual about his work. Varied textures and patterns are used over a large area of his paintings and different layers of thought process are evident. The interweaving layers of paint which do not obliterate each other but in fact form a receding skin, a see through the viewer’s eye tends to move and travel from layer to layer creating a depth and new meaning is understood and interpreted.A search for permanence seems to be reflected in most of his work.
The inner divine melody of his own soul and his eternal quest brought a turning point and he transitioned from wash painting in water colour to canvas with acrylic colours .A growth pattern of his self is clearly evident in the pattern of thought processes of his latest work.He has been decorated with numerous National Level Awards and titles like: KALA SHREE by AIFACS , All India Art Exhibition Award , First All India Traditional Art Award and many more. The aim of his collection of art works is to house an extraordinary array of art works which not only inspire the modern artists but also inspire an inner meditative urge in them.He has also travelled all over the world to study different art works, techniques of artists world over and has participated in several sketching and photography tours”
